The Convent of the Carmo, in the city of Moura, south of Portugal, was the first convent of the Order of the Carmo in the Iberian Peninsule, founded during the ruling of Afonso III, King of Portugal, in 1521. From there, some monks of the Order went to Lisbon, where  they founded the Convent of the Carmo of Lisbon.

O Convento do Carmo, na cidade de Moura, foi o primeiro estabelecimento da Ordem do Carmo na Península Ibérica, fundado no reinado Afonso III, em 1521. Foi daqui que partiram os monges que fundaram o Convento do Carmo de Lisboa, a convite de Nuno Álvares Pereira.

City Landscape of Moura - Alentejo / Vista Parcial de Moura - Alentejo

This painting shows a partial view of the city of Moura, in the Portuguese southern province of Alentejo. Displayed are the most iconic landmarks of the city: the XI Century castle, one of the ancient doors in the city walls, the clock tower, a small palace, the old market and the ancient moorish quarter.

Este quadro apresenta uma vista parcial da cidade de Moura, no Alentejo. Nele, podemos ver os elementos mais icónicos da cidade: o castelo do século XI, uma das antigas portas nas muralhas, a torre do relógio, uma casa apalaçada, o mercado municipal e a antiga mouraria.

Roman bridge and Watermill / Ponte Romana e Azenha de Roda

A recent problem with my PC kept me away from the Net, but thanks to it I have now a string of recent works ready or nearly ready to publish in this blog :) In this painting, we see a more usual type of watermill easy to find anywhere in Portugal, in oposition to the last one I'v published, of the Moorish type. The Roman bridge its located in the vicinity of Moura, in the Portuguese province of Alentejo. In fact, I conveniently set together two elements found in different locations in Alentejo, "bonded" here by their common elements: water and stone.

Um problema recente com o meu PC tem-me mantido afastado da Net, mas, graças a isso, tenho agora um conjunto de trabalhos recentes prontos e quase prontos para publicação neste blog :) Neste quadro está representado um  tipo mais vulgar de azenha de roda vertical,  facil de encontrar em qualquer província de Portugal, em oposição aquela que publiquei no ultimo post, e que é do modelo Mourisco. A ponte Romana localiza-se nos arredores da cidade de Moura, no Alentejo. De facto, montei convenientemente dois elementos encontrados em dois diferentes locais do Alentejo, "colados" aqui pelos seus elementos comuns: agua e pedra.
